Title
The title of this film is The 40 Year-Old Virgin. This is immediately clear to the audience because it is in white lettering printed across the actors polo shirt that he is wearing. It stands out because the polo shirt is quite dark. Because it is actually on the image it gives a feel of everything being close and grouped. The title is the biggest set of words on the poster so it is very eye catching and obvious to the audience what the title of the film is. The word 'the' in the title of the film isn't as bold as the rest of it because that isn't very important compared to the rest of the title which tells the audience what the film is about.
Mise en Scene
In this poster the main picture is of Steve Carell who plays the 40 year-old virgin in this film. In this picture Steve looks very happy almost as if he is in a child like state looking at something that he wants. This mixed in with the background which is very bright and happy colours could lead the audience to believe that he has a child's mind or a very simple mind and that's why he cant find a lady. He looks very smart as well with a polo shirt on and his hair combed over almost as if he is trying to hard. This will make the audience want to see what happens to him in this film and to find out if he finds a girl or not. The orange and yellow background is the main thing that attracts people to this poster on first sight because it is so eye catching and then they will see the picture of Steve Carell and will want to go and see it if they have seen any of the past films he has been in (Anchorman, Evan Almighty). The slogan underneath the title which says 'better late than never' shows that this is a comedy because it is a funny saying and tells everyone immediately which genre this film is.
Release date
The release date for this film isn't clear on this poster. Looking closely at it i cant find one which isn't good because it will lead people to not see the film due to not knowing when it is coming out. This is a bad strategy because it will cause their ticket sales to plummet. If the release date is on there somewhere in the credits at the bottom then it is not clear at all and nobody will see it because not many people read the credits on a poster as the first thing they do.
Actors Name
Steve Carell is such a well know actor that his name doesn't need to be very big on the poster but they put it in big letters to balance out the poster because it is just above the title so would look strange if it was in small writing. He is recognised worldwide for doing such films as 'Anchorman' and 'Evan Almighty' both very funny films. I think the positioning of the name is very good because if the actors name was at the bottom and in small writing then it wouldn't be as obvious who was in the film if the actor wasn't as famous. Because his name is in yellow i also makes it different to the title which is in white. If it was the same colour as the title it would be to similar and boring to look at.
