Analysing film poster - Semi Pro

Title
The title of this film is Semi Pro. This is immediately clear to the audience because it is in white lettering with red outlines on an orange and red background and is in bold font. The title doesn't give away anything to what the film is going to be about but it hints that it could be a sports film as semi-pro is short for semi-professional which usually describes a sports team or players.  It is also in a semi circle to make it unique and more interesting than if it was in just a straight line.
Mise en Scene
In this poster the main picture is of Will Ferrell who plays Jackie Moon in this film. He is holding a basketball in this picture and is wearing a very tight basketball best and a very tight pair of basketball shorts This tells the audience when the film was set. Also you can tell the film was set a long time ago by the actors hair (Afro) which was worn by men and women back in the 70s and 80s. This picture automatically gives the idea that this film is something to do with basketball and sports in the 70s and 80s. The fact that he is alone in the poster gives the impression that he is the main character and that he is very important in this film. Also the background looks like a ray of light coming out from behind him which shows he is an important figure.

Release date
The release date for this film is February 29th. This isn't very clear to the audience straight away because it is in very small font. Although it is small it is still noticeable because it is in black writing on an orange and red background and is also between Will Ferrell's legs and just above the title to the film. This means that it will draw the audiences attention to it when they go and look at the film title meaning they will know when the film comes out. Looking at this poster as a whole i wouldn't notice the release date unless i looked very closely which isn't a good thing because it may cause people to not see it due to not knowing the release date. The actually release date itself is a bit random because it isn't during a school holiday so they wont get a booster f students going to see it they will only get people going to see it in the evenings or on the weekend which means they wont get as many ticket sales.

Actors Name
Will Ferrell is such a well know actor that his name doesn't need to be very big on the poster but they put it in big letters to balance out the poster because of the title being in big bold writing as well. This will catch the eye of many people and make them want to go and see the film if they couldn't identify that it was Will Ferrell straight away because of his hair.  He is recognised worldwide for doing such films as 'Step Brothers' and 'Blades of Glory' both very funny films. I think the positioning of the name is very good because if the actors name was at the bottom and in small writing then it wouldn't be as obvious who was in the film if the actor wasn't as famous.
