Analysing front cover of film magazine - Green Lantern

Mise en scene
On this front cover there is a very large picture of Ryan Reynolds who isn't that famous of an actor but because he is in full costume you can see straight away which film he is appearing in. The magazine is trying to promote his latest film called Green Lantern which is about a superhero who saves the world.  I know this because of the way he is dressed in an all green lycra suit with a green mask on like a super hero would wear and is glowing as if he has special powers. He is standing in front of a dark background to make him stand out more and also is trying to portray that he will fight evil through the darkness. Also it shows exclusives and previews of what's inside the magazine which is the most important thing on the front cover of the magazine apart from the photo. The fact that the picture on the front cover is big makes it eye catching and appealing to potential buyers and fans of the actor.

Title
The magazine title is ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY. The reader can identify this straight away because it is in bold yellow letters and is very large. It is done in big yellow lettering because it stands out against a dark background and also yellow and green go well together so it fits in with the theme of the cover. The word weekly has been engraved into the word entertainment to make it unique. This also makes it look more professional because otherwise there would be to much yellow writing on the page and there wouldn't be enough room for it. This title is partially blocked by Ryan Reynolds which makes the audience concentrate on who is in the magazine more than what the title is. This could also help the magazine because it could lead the potential buyers to look at the picture and then see that it leads to the title of the magazine so will make them look at it.
Extras
The extras on this magazine front cover make the potential buyers want to pick it up and have a read of the magazine. Using things such as big stickers saying special comic-con preview' will grab the attention of potential buyers and make them look through the magazine. This will hopefully make them see something they like so they buy it. The list of sneak peaks for the latest films will also encourage people to pick up the magazine to see if they are worth going to see. These films also relate to the target audience of people who buy these magazines because the pictures of films being reviewed are aged at teenagers not the elder generation or really young children.
LetteringThe lettering for this magazine front cover is all in green and yellow which sets the theme which is insects and flies. This shows that this magazine front cover has been set up to only promote this film. The fact that the lettering that isn't as large on the side of the page to promote other stories is so that it doesn't take away the audience focus from the main picture and film promoted. This is in white which help it stand out more but stops the consistency of colour on the front cover which is yellow and green. Obviously the most important part of this magazine is the title of the film which needs to be in bold otherwise people wont know what film this is promoting. Green Lantern is the largest thing on the magazine and is written in bold to make it as eye catching as possible to browsers. The colours green and yellow are used here because they are a reoccurring theme on this page and the editor wants a constant flow to the front cover apart from the white writing on the right side of the page that cuts the flow a bit.
