Analysing front cover of film magazine - Inception

Mise en scene
On this front cover there is a very large picture of Leonardo Dicaprio who is a famous and well recognised figure on the movie scene. The magazine is trying to promote his latest film called Inception. I know this because of the way he is dressed and also the background that he is standing in front of. He is dressed in a black suit because in the game he is a very serious man who is caught between two worlds and forgets which one is the real one. The background is all puzzles and electronics because that is what the film is about its about mind games and how this guy can get out of this puzzle he is in. The blue background behind him gives a hint of mystery and suspense. It may also give a sense of uncertainty and worry because Leonardo is trapped in this film. Also it shows exclusives and previews of what's inside the magazine which is the most important thing on the front cover of the magazine apart from the photo. The fact that the picture on the front cover is big makes it eye catching and appealing to potential buyers and fans of the actor.

Title
The magazine title is TOTAL FILM. The reader can identify this straight away because it is in bold white letters and is very large. Although the electronics design doesn't make it stand out it is still effective because of its size and its position. The electronics style sets the theme of the whole front cover which promotes the film. The word total has been engraved into the word film to make it unique. This also makes it look more professional because otherwise there would be to much white writing on the page. This title is partially blocked by Leonardo Dicaprio which makes the audience concentrate on who is in the magazine more than what the title is. This could also help the magazine because it could lead the potential buyers to look at the picture and then see that it leads to the title of the magazine so will make them look at it.
Extras
The extras on this magazine front cover make the potential buyers want to pick it up and have a read of the magazine. Using things such as big stickers saying 'everything you need to know' will grab the attention of potential buyers and make them look through the magazine. This will hopefully make them see something they like so they buy it. The list of reviews for the latest films will also encourage people to pick up the magazine to see if they are worth going to see. These films also relate to the target audience of people who buy these magazines because the pictures of films being reviewed are aged at teenagers not the elder generation or really young children.
Lettering
The lettering for this magazine front cover is all in silver which sets the theme which is mechanical and electronicsThis shows that this magazine front cover has been set up to only promote this film. The fact that the lettering that is enlarged on the side of the page to promote other stories is in white which help it stand out more because it helps draw the attention of anyone looking at the cover. The colour silver was a good choice because it is associated with metal and machinery which is what the movie is trying to portray the mind to be like. Obviously the most important part of this magazine is the title of the film which needs to be in bold otherwise people wont know what film this is promoting. Inception is the largest thing on the magazine and is written in bold to make it as eye catching as possible to browsers. The colour silver is used here because it is a reoccurring theme on this page and the editor wants a constant flow to the front cover.
